IP, which stands for an Ingress Protection is often found in the form of a table. An IP rating is a classification of an enclosure or cases ability to resist items entering it. IP Ratings are classified by categorical codes. These, in turn, summarise the scale of protection offered from foreign bodies such as; substantial objects, dirt and moisture
The numbers that follow IP each have a specific meaning. The first, with 1 being the lowest and 6 the highest, indicates the degree of protection of enclosed equipment from foreign bodies. The second defines, with 1 being the lowest and 9 the highest, the protection level that the enclosure enjoys from various forms of moisture (drips, sprays, submersion etc).
